Night Drawings  Allhallows

+ Allhallows Series of 5 drypoint prints

During her doctoral research in the Hoo Peninsula on the North Kent marshes, Falcini began to map the atmosphere, developing a series of night drawings made at night in the pitch black on the shorelines of Allhallows. Walking towards the remote areas of the landscape the artist became immersed in the isolation of the space.

Using paper and simple drawing tools Falcini made instinctive drawings in the pitch black of night, foregrounding the emotional and phenomenological responses to the landscape. Distant pearls of light from across the estuary became a series of dots on the paper, reminiscent of routes and pathways suggesting a different kind of cartography.

Enveloped in the darkness the artist entered into an attuned space, observing the sounds and smells of the estuary; the subtle particles and “tinctures” of the atmosphere that were obscured in the daylight hours.
